Book Review: Legendary Race Cars by Basem Wasef

Legendary Race Cars by Basem Wasef is an interesting read that profiles 25 significant race cars. Wasef covers all the bases; Everything from the Greer-Black-Prudhomme dragster to the old Auto Union GP cars are in this book. For us that’s a good thing, as we have very wide ranging interests. If your focus is more narrowed, that may be a problem.

Choosing 25 of the most significant race cars out of so many genres seems like an impossible task, but we think that Wasef did a good job. This book is educational in some ways and works as reinforcement in others. You may not be barraged with fresh information about cars you’re already familiar with, but you’ll get lots of good detail on the ones that are new to you.

We enjoy learning about cars outside of our comfort zone but also appreciate that Wasef included the dragster, Big Oly, the STP Turbine cars, and a couple others that we knew. Those cars are anchor points while the others are nice journeys of discovery.

This is a kick ass holiday gift for yourself or a gearhead that you know who appreciates history and like to learn.
