This book can qualify as a time killer all on its own, with just about every inch of the legendary Trans-Am Series being covered in amazing photographic detail with first hand accounts backing them up. It’s Trans-Am, The Pony Car Wars 1966-1972 by Dave Freidman.
There have been lots of books written on Trans-Am and we believe that this one sits on top of the heap for several reasons, mainly because we’ve used it as a reference source several times. The problem is that once you crack the cover, you’re stuck flipping through this book for hours on end simply because you keep spotting something new.
In terms of content, this tome is packed full of race results, personal stories, and direct quotes from the guys who were slugging it out back then.
While we love the photos and the narrative being carried along by the use of quotes and anecdotes, it wouldn’t have hurt the book to have each chapter introduced in a one- to two-page summary of what you were about to see.
The final neat quality about this book is that it gives plenty of time and coverage to the small car classes that featured some neat (albeit furrin’” cars like Minis, Alfa Romeros and others).
If you love the drivers, the era, or just love looking at the cars of Trans-Am, this is the book for you.
