Breaking News: Memphis Motorsports Park to be IHRA Sanctioned

BangShift has learned from reliable sources that the recently purchased Memphis Motorsports Park will operate under an IHRA sanction in 2011, assuming that the closing on the property concludes with the finalization of the sale. We have also learned that the facility will require between $1 and $3-million in repairs, changes, and replacement equipment to be race ready.

It makes sense that the new ownership would seek IHRA sanction for the facility as their other property, Palm Beach International Raceway, in Florida is also an IHRA track.

We’re expecting to hear an announcement soon from IHRA about adding the facility to the 2011 Nitro Jam event schedule.

As we receive more information we’ll pass it along.

The long drag drought in Memphis appears to be nearing an end and that’s great news for hot rodders in the area and it is especially good news for the IHRA as they’ll be picking up a large market where they have never had this large a presence in before.
