Ronnie Montrose and Sammy Hagar were the two most well known parts of the first version of the band Montrose that emerged in the early 1970s and became stadium hard rock gods by the time the decade closed out. They were one of the hardest rocking bands of their era and lots of 1980s and 1990s metal guys will often cite Montrose as influential in their personal musical development. While Hagar was the earliest lead singer for the band and the guy featured in this video of the band performing their jam Bad Motor Scooter it was Bob James who was fronting the band during their era of peak success in the middle and late 1970s when they were touring the world and playing with the likes of KISS, The Rolling Stones, and others.
This is a cool video and a great song. Hagar is super young here and wearing an outfit that he probably wishes no record of exists. We’re obviously not into fashion around here but take a look at the pants the man has on. Welcome to 1974 (when this video was made)! Hagar’s voice rules, Ronnie Montrose’s guitar licks are great, and the tune about picking a girl up and hauling tail off into the country side on a bad ass motorcycle is the perfect wake up call this morning!
Thanks to Anthony Castillo for the tip!
HIT THE LINK TO HEAR MOTROSE PERFORM THEIR SONG – BAD MOTOR SCOOTER!
Or in Brians case get on your bad set of FlowMasters. lol
This is the first time I’ve heard of Montrose. Thanks, I learned something today.
great band! RIP Ronnie
Man! I saw these guys in San Diego around this time! What a memory!! Thanks for posting!
Thanks Brian and my fellow Bang Shifters. If you don’t yet own the first seft titled Montrose record (which this song is on), do your selves a favor and get it. It’s an almost perfect record! Drummer Denny Carmassi went on to have great success with Heart when they had some of their biggest arena hits. RIP Ronnie.
GREAT album with several other epic songs. Ronnie was a hell of a guitarist. Most probably don’t know this was one of Sammy Haggar’s earlier gigs too.
