BangShift Daily Tune Up: “Midnight Blue” Lou Gramm (1987)

BangShift Daily Tune Up: “Midnight Blue” Lou Gramm (1987)

Foreigner is one of those bands that transcends time and continental divides. Made up of both American and British band mates, Foreigner has had hits over three decades and has sold  over 80 million records. Their fearless front man, Lou Gramm, recorded his own solo album, Ready or Not, in 1987 and Midnight Blue was one of the immediate hits on that album. It hit number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and number 1 on the Billboard Rock charts. We are assuming that Lou is the car guy since he has a cool GTO convertible in the video for Midnight Blue, and Foreigner has had ’69 Camaro and ’69 Judge stage props during their concert tours before. Whoever it is, we’re glad. This is a cool Lou Gramm song that makes us think of our high school days.

I seem to recall hearing “back in the day” that the tune is based on the color of Lou’s first car.

Years ago there was a picture in High Performance Pontiac of Lou at a National Pontiac Show where he sat in with the band to sing “little GTO”.
