BS Daily Tune Up: A-Bone – The Trashmen (1964)

Minnesota’s favorite rock and roll sons of the middle 1960s were a band of boys known as “The Trashmen”. In 1963 they launched out of obscurity and ran up the charts with their most well known tune, “Surfin’ Bird“. That song made it to number four. The guys would have a few songs make it onto the charts and do well before they broke up in 1967. We were tipped off to their 1964 car tune called A-Bone by BS reader Bob Plesnevich who told us that he remembered a song from decades back that mentioned the term BangShift in its lyrics.

Sure enough when we went trolling around the internet to see what was what and if Bob was accurate in his memory we found the tune below. Consider this our new anthem! As you’ll hear, the line, “It’s a BANGshift Hydro with a big shillelagh!” is repeated a few times during the tune that’s an ode to a bad ass hot rod.

Low fidelity rock and roll about cars that conjures up the name of our internet chicken coupe…..HELLO?! WHAT’S BETTER THAN THAT?!
