BS Daily Tune Up: Beep Beep – The Playmates (1958)

Life was pretty darned good for The Playmates in 1958. The group has just signed on to Roulette records, cracked into the Top 40 with two tunes off of their first album. Adding to that was the shockingly positive response from the public over the funny car tune “Beep Beep“. This novelty song, with its ever increasing tempo flew up the charts until stopping at number four. Amazingly, the tale of the Cadillac and Nash Rambler lived on the charts for 12 weeks. The group earned a gold record for achieving sales of over one million units on the “Beep Beep” 45. This is a fun song about cars. What’s not to love?

In reading about the ditty, a French version was made that ditched the Cadillac and Nash Rambler names for “limousine and bubble car”.

Brian, thanks for combining two of my hobbies – cars and music! Both are very addictive but fun.
