Ok, maybe get myself going. Brian and Chad can wake up at the unholy crack of dawn and go until about ten or so at night. I’m one of those types that wakes up mentally about 9am if you’re lucky but will press on until three or four in the morning. If I need to be up any earlier the music comes on, because nothing else short of a swift kick in the ass will do it. And as you guys are reading this, I’m spooling up for a few days of fun at LS Fest here in Bowling Green.
Godsmack appeared on the scene right about the time I hit high school. They have two modes: quiet and moody and loud and brash. While I like both, loud and brash works. “Speak” came out in 2006 and ended up #1 on the rock charts. The video, according to lead singer Sully Erna, was a full improvisation. “We hung out for the day, nothing was choreographed. It was really cool. We just got to light up the tires all day long. And as a band, the first half of the day, we got to hang around and watch these people go off on these killer machines and do the most insane stunts we’ve ever seen live.” Wow, rough day at the office, but there’s no denying that the rock music and fast machinery goes together. And what I like is that there’s no cheesy tie-in with the lyrics. The song is one thing and the tire-frying is another.
Yeah, that works for me. I have to say it’s a toss-up between the sideways ’55 and the Chevy truck with the flamethrowers if I had to pick one, but all of it is badass. Take a look for yourself and see what works for you!
