Budweiser Drops Bernstein at the End of 2009

Budweiser Drops Bernstein at the End of 2009

We were hoping this announcement was not actually coming, but here it is. It was announced yesterday that Budweiser will no longer sponsor the Kenny Bernstein Racing operation after the end of 2009.

With the purchase of Budweiser by Belgian based brewer InBev during the summer of 2008, and the rumors that the company was going to slash and burn sponsorships, this seemed like only a matter of time.

This 30-year sponsorship is the longest running in the history of motorsports, beating out Richard Petty’s 28-year run with STP by a couple.

This now puts the team on the hot seat for next season. If they are unable to find a deal, it seems as though it will be the first season in decades that didn’t have someone named Bernstein behind the wheel of a race car.

Here’s a link to Kenny Bernstein’s thoughts on the announcement. Just in case you were wondering, this does suck badly.
