It’s Fall and that means one thing: Major League Baseball Playoffs! Hate sports you say? Don’t be so fast to take off. As we were watching some baseball we thought about a great story we read a couple years ago about bull pen cars. You remember those right? The wacky vehicles used to transport pitchers a couple hundred feet from the bull pen to the mound? There are some fun ones.
This ESPN.com story, written by Paul Lukas takes you through the whole history of the bull pen whip. We were amazed to read that the White Sox actually used Cadillacs for a while! Wacky golf carts were the norm, but teams like the Yankees seized on the promotional value and used stuff like Datsuns and Toyotas which we assume were given to the team for publicity.
It’s a weird chapter in baseball history, but it’s just about the only appealing one to gearheads, so check it out.
