Can You Help Identify The Persons Responsible For Setting Oil Traps For Bikers In California?

Enthusiasts and the general public have a long history of not getting along. From the street racing controversy to Australia’s “hoon laws” to noise ordinances and the joys of an overactive housing authority, it’s generally a war against motoring enthusiasts of any type. That’s fine, we get that. It’s why we have racing sanctioning bodies, SEMA, and clubs that stress responsible and safe behaviors. But it seems that just isn’t enough for someone near Glendora Mountain in California, who has taken it upon themselves to do what can only be described as the most asinine thing we’ve seen in recent memory…setting down oil slicks in the hopes of wrecking motorcyclists.

Two different motorcyclists have recorded the same situation on March 8, 2015: fresh oil being dumped onto the road in the middle of an apex, and not just a little bit, either. As you can see in the video, after passing a red Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe, at least three distinct spots were located on Glendora Mountain Road on the return trip from the turnaround point, with the last oil slick containing no tire marks, leading the bikers to believe that whoever was in the Chevrolet was pouring the oil slicks. Whether you are for or against people having a little fun on a curvy road, you can surely see the dangers this possesses, not only for bikers who would only have a split-second reaction time before laying the bike down (or worse, high-siding on a road) but cars as well. I’ll admit to canyon-carving, and coming out of some of those turns, there’s a good chance of swapping ends if you’re anywhere near the throttle. And what about normal users of the road? Or the environmental impact of pouring oil onto a public road in California? It’s stupid and dangerous.

So let’s make the individual(s) behind this famous. The SUV suspected is a red 2000-2006 Chevrolet SUV, either a Tahoe or Suburban (it’s difficult to tell from the video clip) with California license plate 4***981. Of all the methods that whoever behind these oil slicks could have used to take care of their personal beef with everybody on the road, and risking public safety by pouring oil onto the asphalt is by far the most idiotic effort we’ve ever seen.

Contact the CHP if you have a concern. If they ask if you were speeding, say yes, take the hit (they can’t ticket what they didn’t observe) if it might save someone’s skin. Oil puddles/ spills/stains are a way of life here in NJ.

It’s no surprise that sport bikers on those roads earn themselves some bitter enemies, doing their thing in groups and/or in high-traffic hours…but anybody sabotaging a roadway w/ oil needs to be strung up.

10pm-2am was when we ran canyons back in the day.

Back in the 80’s the good residence along Mulholland Hwy did that near the Rock Store. They found vegetable oil sprayed on the early morning dew covered roads did a very good job of landing several of them in court.
