Video: Can You JB Weld A Briggs and Stratton Connecting Rod Back Together Again And Run It Successfully?

Thanks to Matt Cramer we have a definitive answer to one of life’s great questions. Can someone actually use the miracle product known as JB Weld to stick a connecting rod back together? In this case the test is performed in a Briggs and Stratton flathead engine of the like 5hp variety. While our hopes were not high for this idea, we dig the fact that it was performed in a small engine and not a big block or something like that. Why? Well it would seem that in a little motor, this seemingly awful idea has a chance or working, right? The guy doing the test seems to take as much pleasure in getting all the stuff ready as we did in watching.

We’re not going to give away the ending here but we will say that we think the dude performing the whole program took as much time and precaution as he could before spinning up the engine and testing the strength of the JB Weld bond. Not being engineers, we’re not sure if the quality of the connecting rod material has anything to do with the strength of the JB Weld bond. The rods in an old Briggs and Stratton engine are likely not made of the highest quality alloys. SHOCKING!

So this is one of those things you may have quietly or silently wondered over the years. Now you have an answer and you don’t ever have to admit to being fascinated by this video.
