Canadian Government Moves to Seize Two Million Dollar Fleet of Sports Cars Busted Street Racing

Canadian Government Moves to Seize Two Million Dollar Fleet of Sports Cars Busted Street Racing

The original story read like the plot line from a 1980s movie. A horde of rich kids from an exclusive private high school were caught street racing in a group of the world’s most expensive high performance cars. The police impounded the cars and now the Canadian government is looking to take permanent possession of them. By permanent we mean just long enough to sell them.

Here’s a list of the cars involved:

2007 Ferrari 599
2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
2009 Lamborghini Gallardo
2009 Audi R8
2012 Nissan GT-R
2010 Nissan GT-R
2010 Nissan GT-R
2010 Maserati GranTurismo
2010 Maserati GranTurismo
2011 Mercedes SL63 AMG
2011 Mercedes SLS AMG
2005 Aston Martin DB9

The racers were all between the ages of 18 and 21 with several being classified as “novice” drivers, meaning that they were relatively new behind the wheel and had to be displaying a large letter “N” sticker on the car. The provincial government applied for a seizure order with the British Columbia Supreme Court a couple of weeks back on the grounds that the cars are “instruments of illegal activity” and may be used to harm innocent people in the future if given back to their owners.

The pile of cars is worth over $2-million if you look at their selling prices. That would be one heck of a government liquidation auction when they hit the block!

What’s your take? Should the government take the cars or give them back to the kids that lost them in the first place?

Not that I condone street racing, but whatever happened to the “common sense” (if there is such a thing, anymore… sheesh!) of taking your illegal activity to a secluded area for the sake of (1) minimizing harm to innocent and non-participating parties should anything happen, and (2) minimizing the chances of getting caught? These kids need to take a note from Two-Lane Blacktop — line ’em up out in the country with the horses and cows.

I say don’t give the cars back to the kids! Someone needs to teach them the value of life and taking responsibility for the consequences of their actions. [/rant]

Those GTR’s are pretty fast cars !

What do they care if they dont get them back.Whomever bought them for the kids in the firs place will just buy more.Sad but true.

More than likely these cars are registered to the FATHERS of these spoiled brats. Meaning they CAN NOT be siezed since the owner was not the one behind the wheel when the offense occured. Slap the fine on the driver and return the car to daddy. As an afterthought I would like to know the names of the people who own these cars. Who in their right mind gives a child a car like this??? Maybe they should be confiscated.

is a vast overreaction to what should be a simple traffic offense. Street racing is NOT on the same level as drug smuggling or other felonies commonly associated with forefeiture.

Fine ’em and suspend their licenses (ala Kyle Busch), but don’t take millions in personal property because of a momentary, youthful lapse in judgment.

On the other hand, it could be worse. I’ve read that down in Australia, “Anti-Hoon” laws could result in the vehicles being destroyed.

Rich young guys street racing exotics . . . that sounds like “Redline” (2007) . . . a movie with a “0% fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

One reviewer described “Redline” as: “An idiotic action thriller, vanity project and testosterone-filled guilty pleasure whose sole purpose is to show off a fleet of million-dollar Ferraris and Lamborghinis belonging to fledgling movie mogul Daniel Sadek.” (Terry Lawson, Detroit Free Press)

Another quipped: “It’s your typical studio vehicle so to speak, about the illegal world of underground racing with hot women, no brains, and a paper thin plot that’s basically non-existent or relevant to the events on screen.”

Somehow I’ll bet that the “real life” version in Canada is just as vapid.

Wouldn’t you hate to be the poor preppy “slummin'” with the 2005 Aston Martin DB9? . . . . A six-year-old “clunker” . . . OH THE SHAME! “Couldn’t Father have completed just one more hostile takeover?”

    lining up Pop’s 2bbl 455 Delta 88 against a 472 Sedan DeVille (wheeled by a future district judge, no less) on prom night . . . .

  8. Speedy

I’d flipped the air cleaner lid on the Delta 88 so I thought it stood a chance against the 472 Sedan DeVille . . . . I soon found that the “flip the lid” mod was overrated.

  9. Dr. Rocket 88

    like a moaning Rochester 2-bbl on a Rocket 455, steaming hard through a single exhaust during a peg-leg whitewall “peel out” . . . .

Since I live here ( Vancouver ) I see these young guys all the time with their leather driving gloves and cool sun glasses . They are hardly old enough to shave and can’t drive worth a damn . For them to be weaving in and out of traffic and at high speed is a nightmare waiting to happen . Taking these machines away from them is doing us all a favour . Besides their rich daddys over in China will buy them all new wheels to kill themselves in or some innocent bystander . Just saying ! .

As I recall in the original newspaper article, the police were acting on reports from third parties. The police never saw any of the supposed traffic violations. But I guess if actually seeing the violation first hand isn’t required, why not impound every car in Canada that might be capable of going over the speed linit…..

only one of them had the car registered in their name. Stupidity at it’s finest, screw ’em, take the cars. Lesson learned (well not really since Daddy will buy them a new one)

Racing on a backroad is one thing, but trying to set up a rolling roadblock on a section of freeway during the middle of the day and racing in between traffic is just f’ing stupid. Don’t feel sorry for these kids whatsoever.

(I drive that section of road very frequently – this was just dumb)

  13. Angus Macfadyen

    Rolling roadblock is stupid . . . because there’s no place for the scantilly-clad babes to chill . . . .

Real street racers block off whole streets for racin’ and ravin.’ They’re just not teachin’ these punks the basics anymore.

I reckon these are the `superspeeders’ jerks off youtube. Arrogant little wankers deserve everything they get….
