Well if this one doesn’t make you chuckle on a Monday morning, not much will. A friend of ours posted this photo yesterday and it is simply too good not to share. The little red car on the left side of the frame is a Nissan Leaf. The Leaf is an all electric car that has sold in very limited numbers, has stranded lots of journalists and other folks when the batteries ran out long before they were supposed to, and is the main competition for the Chevy Volt on the market today. Now that you already know too much about that breadbox on wheels, take a look-see at the massive Diesel generator is it plugged into. With about 350 gallons of diesel on board, a consumption rate that we estimate to be around eight gallons per hour and the Leaf’s charging time of 7-8 hours at 220v (or 14 hours at 110v), the Leaf’s “greenness” seems a little less super-human. Oh, and once it is fully charged, it needs to be plugged in again about 100 miles later!
We use the “Madagascar” technique when dealing with electric car zealots. What’s that? We smile and wave as they roll past in their tiny cars that sound like electric shavers and have a lot more environmental impact than theKool-Aid drinking owners could ever understand.
what I’ve been saying all along. No nukes, no new hydro dams, no coal generation … Where is the electricity supposed to come from ?
100 miles foreward 64 gallons back.
hey don’t be disrespectful to Kool-Aid ! lol..
eh, just give it some time, once they produce a low-cost Oscillation Overthruster, they’ll start kicking ass…
…right into the 8th Dimension
I’ve been saying this for a long time; how is plugging in a couple of million electric cars after the daily commute going to help all those over-populated cities that already have rolling blackouts? What is the base fuel for electric cars? COAL!
The market will detirmine the suitable replacement for fossil fueled transportation when the need arises. It hasn’t yet. These people are educated idiots, and idiologs….
Brians dead nuts on with the fuel consumption. I wonder what sort of amps the charger on those things draw? That generator looks to be 125kw, I gotta think it’s overkill. I hear people ranting about how little gas they put in their Chevy Volt, but they never say what their electric bill went to.
if they’d charge faster and solar panels where cheaper..it not be so bad..
but a 30k car and 50k solar panels on your roof.. buys a ton of fuel..
Electric + Hybrid = Stupid cars!!!
There’s a sucker born every minute!
