You know the cars of Halloween: Drag-u-la, the Munster Koach, Christine, The Car, the Peterbilt from Duel. Then there is the car of the Grim Reaper, the hooded one with a scythe who is out doing his duty of the evening. Souls have to be collected, and transported to the land of the afterlife, but how would he do it? It all depends on your personification of Death, but from where we sit, he is responsible for performing a task, one way or another, that involves transportation without judgement…that is reserved for another. So what would he actually drive? We think that this 1937 Buick Series 40 sedan goes towards the right path…we hope.
The Buick is a blend of classic touches and welcome upgrades found over the years. The Honda-sourced dark red color works beautifully with the restored chrome trim. Inside, a few modern touches like the power seats, windows, door locks, Vintage Air air conditioning, Custom Audiosound audio system with Sony speakers and custom steering wheel actually do not detract much from the car’s overall stock look. The deviation comes when the powertrain is studied. A 6.0L LS from a Chevrolet Silverado is paired off with a 4L60E from a Pontiac GTO gets the Buick moving quickly, while the RideTech suspension keeps everyone settled in comfort from the moment they sit in the rear seat until the moment they reach the ferry at the river Styx.
The Reaper might be grim, but he would behave like a respectable undertaker: with respect to the dead being of the utmost importance. That’s not to say that seeing a blood red Buick parked on your street at night shouldn’t scare you…
That front end is awesome!
Gorgeous. And LS-powered—excellent!
Death would strike down anyone who drove this!
Death DOES NOT ride in anything (no matter how awesomely beautiful) that is powered by an LS hunk of crap. Its high time the IRS instituted an LS tax to stop the league of mouth breathing morons that have the word Chevy engraved on their tiny brains inflicting such swaps on the rest of the Ford-loving world!
That’s better – now I can get ready to watch Newcastle United stuff stoke tomorrow….
The back seat is the only thing that bugs me with this. The way it’s shaped just looks awkward. Other than that it is a gorgeous car!
