Money No Object: Pretending You’re Warren Johnson With A Fully Prepared 1984 Hurst/Olds!

Money No Object: Pretending You’re Warren Johnson With A Fully Prepared 1984 Hurst/Olds!

We aren’t saying that this 1984 Oldsmobile is a former Warren Johnson car. The seller isn’t saying that, either. But if this Hurst/Olds isn’t a WJ car, then somebody went to great lengths to duplicate the look of The Professor’s silver machine that took him to a runner-up spot in the 1984 Winston championship for Pro Stock. In it’s Silver/Black combination (versus the Black/Silver combination for the 1983 Hurst/Olds he ran previously), this Oldsmobile is striking, and it’s parts list is intimidating. According to the seller, the Hurst/Olds has a “598.9 Merlin Block with Wiseco Pistons. Howards Rods, Lunati, Crank. Heads are Brodix Big Brodies. Cam shaft is 820/800 bullet shaft ISKY. Roller lifters and Crane roller rockers. Ignition is a MSD 7AL2. Induction is via Enderle Buzzard Catcher sitting atop of a Edlebrock tunnel ram manifold – approximately 1400 HP at the JW solid flywheel. Engine built, maintained, and tuned by Bob and Tom Smartwood at BT performance in Lakewood, Colorado. Power glide was built by Keith Sikes of Sikes Racing Transmissions of Littleton, Colorado. Chassis was updated by Jack Ammons Race Cars of Smyer, Texas.”

But like we said before, it’s not a WJ car. It’s just one seriously badass Olds. One with no VIN number, because it was a factory race car. Hmm…

Yeah, it’s not a WJ car…it’s got stock-type upper control arms, a stock-appearing firewall mounted master cylinder and the side glass at the B pillar is not flush. Cool replica though!

    1. Turbo Regal

Warren Johnson sold his Cutlass off at the end of the 1984 season when he got his new Calais. Buddy Ingersoll bought it and made it into his legendary Turbo Regal.
