Phoenix Rusting: Junkyard Digs Wakes Up His Dream Machine Firebird!

When Kevin from Junkyard Digs said that he had located his dream machine, a 1973 Pontiac Firebird, I naturally raised an eyebrow. The dude had been on a buying spree since his return from deployment, and the last time he drug a Pontiac home, it was a LeMans that had been swimming quite a few times and then there was the low-buck Oldsmobile as well…okay, I’m beating around the bush a bit. The dude lives for beaters. So what did he manage to find? A 1973 Pontiac Firebird Formula, with the cool twin-scoop hood. Color me jealous…it’s no SD-455 but there isn’t a 1973 Firebird that isn’t worth owning. And he got a four-speed car too. I couldn’t wait to see pictures of it when he was heading out to pick it up.

Then I saw it. I had flashbacks to my 1975 Camaro, the first car I ever had to myself…and realized that for all of the rot-holes that my car had, I was still pretty fortunate. The Formula is rough, but there is an engine, there is a four-speed, and of course there are those super-sweet wheels that will make excellent coffee tables once anything better is found. He might have bitten off more than he can chew on this car, but don’t let determination and hope fade, right? That’s why he enlisted Luke (ThunderHead 289) to help at least bring the F-body back to life.

Anybody got a donor shell laying around? Pretty sure he could use one right about now!
