Rough Start: Two For One Special! A Pair Of Big Pontiacs Are Up For Grabs!

If there is ever a way to get my wife on-board with any kind of purchase, the key is to make sure that the deal has some kind of value to it that can’t be denied. It explains the last two vehicles I’ve bought. Yes, the rolled-over Explorer and the craptacular SN-95 Mustang both have value: excellent powertrains, a suspension setup, parts that can be sold off. I made some coin on the Explorer and anything I sell from the Mustang is gravy…I only bought the car for the suspension and 5-lug parts and I got a functioning engine and transmission on top of that! Now…how to test some luck? A buy-one, get one deal. If that doesn’t work out, nothing will, right?

Here’s the deal: two large Pontiacs from 1967 for $5,000. The main target is a Catalina nine-passenger wagon with a dead motor and some interior work needed that’s sitting on nice American Racing wheels. We’re suckers for wagons around here, I’m no exception, and I think that the Catalina would clean up nicely. But the issue is that the Pontiac 400 is a dying duck, so to spice up the deal, a four-door sedan that’s only seen 35,000 miles (claimed, anyways) comes along as part of the deal. Just from what little we do see of the four-door makes us wonder if it’s not worth saving, too. It’s not bad, that’s for sure! Both cars have paperwork and both cars can be delivered anywhere, according to the seller. I need two All-American Land Yachts in my yard like I need a hole in the head, but this is a solid temptation. If it were me, the four-door would be spared and would be freshened up for daily duty while a new powertrain is figured out for the wagon, probably with the 400 mill as a base.

Five grand takes both cars as-is. If you just want the wagon, that’ll be four grand, and if you will leave the wheels behind, you can save another five hundred bucks.
