Another Ice Racing Camaro: 454 And Spiked Dual Tires At All Four Corners!

Another Ice Racing Camaro: 454 And Spiked Dual Tires At All Four Corners!

Apparently mid-1970s Chevrolet Camaros are the vehicle of choice to blast around the frozen lakes of Finland. Who knew…around the U.S. they are either the poor man’s split-bumper Camaro at best or a mullet-mobile at worst. There isn’t a real worthwhile difference between a 1970 and 1975 Camaro, to be honest: one has a bigger back window (which is actually a godsend for rear-view visibility) and is equipped with US Government-spec railroad ties front and rear. That’s it. The big blocks fit, the manual transmissions work, the suspension is all there. The shovel-nosed Camaros are still a great platform to build into the car of nightmares, such as this particular beast. All we know about the owner is that he calls himself “frankthebunny2” on YouTube (it’s a reference to the monster rabbit from the movie “Donnie Darko”) and that this black-and-yellow Camaro is a beast. The 454 sounds as deliciously raunchy as anything that came out of Joel Rosen’s shop, and the dual tires at all four corners is trick. The tires look narrow enough on their own, so we wonder what the reason is behind running eight thin studded tires on a Camaro…traction? Either way, we now know of two badass Camaros running around the Scandinavian region that are set up for ice racing. We need to see them run each other!

The only reason I could see for 8 tires is that you gain another 4 sets of shoulder lugs. Also by running skinny tires, you have a better ability to “cut” through the snow and bite the ice itself.

    Haha!

This is my car, I just stumbled upon this while watching other bangshift videos 😀

There aren´t any “regular” width racing spike tires available. The 155 is the regular for racing spike tires. Other option is to do the tires yourself: https://goo.gl/photos/H6Q4bz1Zx6kWE95T6 but that is a LOT of work, so I wanted to do something different this time. The tires worked out great! Lots of traction and they held up great. Single racing spikes would have been toast in one day under that heavy car.

This was the first time this car was driven and I had some first ride issues, including melting spark plug wires on the exhaust headers so thats why its not firing on all cylinders.
