Shop Truck Perfection: This 1979 Chevrolet P10 Is A No-Compromise Garage’s Dream Rig!

Shop Truck Perfection: This 1979 Chevrolet P10 Is A No-Compromise Garage’s Dream Rig!

For most people, a pickup truck or SUV is enough to handle their day-to-day gearhead adventures. You just need enough tie-down straps in the back to keep your cargo safe and you are good to go. But there are compromises to be made with a truck, too…weather being just one of many. If you have a nice late-model rig that isn’t strictly a work truck, are you really going to be concerned about throwing junk in the back? Of course you are, you are still working on getting your money’s worth out of it!

May we offer up for your consideration something a little different, a bit unorthodox but arguably ideal for someone who wants a trick shop truck, but wants to use the hell out of one too? This is a 1979 Chevrolet P10, ususally called a step van. Outside of the occasional older short bus, you don’t see these much anymore, but their sole purpose was to haul…they were work trucks from the second that they got that box body attached, hauling packages, flowers, or whatever else you can come up with. This one…no, it’s not stock. A crate 350 and automatic handle power delivery, 17″ Corvette rally wheels handle the road, and the truck has been lowered with drop spindles and has been stripped to bare aluminum, ready for painting. The back is wide-open for possibilities…shelving, seating or enough room to stick an engine on a stand is ready, and with the barn doors in the back, access should be nothing to worry about. But would you paint it, or polish up the aluminum?

    Could be a great camper
One of the best shelled street motor’s I’ve seen was in a stepvan/breadtruck in the mid 80’s
SBC had exit holes of starburst sheet metal in the oil pan and some holes in the block too . Would have loved to heard it go !
