Anyone reading this site should be familiar with the Christmas spoof “Rusty Chevrolet” by Da Yoopers. (If you aren’t, CLICK HERE to listen to it!) It’s always inspiring to hear on the radio, mainly because growing up I never came close to having a car that would qualify as truly “rusty”. Even my first car, the ’75 Camaro with the rotted quarters, wasn’t anywhere near as bad as some of the stuff you can find if you head into Snowbelt areas where they salt the roads like McDonalds salts french fries. Which makes today’s eBay Find from Minnesota all that much more interesting.
What you have on your screen is a 1953 Chevrolet 3600 pickup truck, and on the surface it looks a little rough, but it is nothing that can’t be handled by someone with some bodywork skills. These Chevy trucks clean up nice and have classic looks that go for miles, so for the right price, there’s someone willing to put the effort into cleaning up the ol’ girl. All of the major body panels are there, and the interior….um…let’s just say that it’s a blank slate that the new owner can do whatever they want to with.
Now, there are some areas that really need attention. For starters, the engine…it has one, but it’s laying in the bed of the truck. There is no transmission, and no passenger side window. And since this truck has been in Minnesota since…well, forever, I’m guessing…there are rust issues to deal with, mainly in the floorboards.
Now, of course, the price. The starting bid on the truck is $800, so at least the initial cost isn’t bad. If you’re feeling like putting together a classic truck…or if you simply want a four-wheeled piece of yard art…take a look at this one and see if it’s for you!
