Family Heirloom: This 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Has Been Waken Up After A Long Rest

During my early days of wrenching as a kid, I stripped some cars that came into the lot that honestly, I kick myself in the ass for ever touching, let alone tearing down like I did. One in particular was a car very similar to this one, a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu sedan, 307, Powerglide, gold paint and all. It was bought to be a parts car for a Malibu coupe that had bondo rear quarters and after the trim and good parts were harvested, the car was sent off to be turned into soup can fodder. Many four-doors just like this one met their ends the same way, but age and maturity have me looking at them in better lights.

SaabKyle04 crossed paths with this Malibu via his wife. Her grandmother owned the car and drove it for decades, but as it goes, it eventually got parked and left alone for years. Like any good gearhead, he couldn’t allow the Chevelle to keep sitting and returning to the earth, so he plunked a new carb and intake onto the 307, fired it up and got the car back to his home in North Carolina. This video is the true introduction to the Chevy…a cold start and a drive in what was a typical family sedan for the day. It’s got problems…rust being one of them…but it’s somewhere between “restore” and “restomod” and either way that Kyle goes, we’re very interested on seeing the progress. Too many of these sedans got sent to the yard…it’s nice to see one that is going to live on!
