STOLEN: Keep An Eye Out For This Monte Carlo And Malibu In The Charlotte, North Carolina Area!

Hot Rod Magazine’s Power Tour is currently going down, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the event, and this morning we have some rather crap news to share with you from the road trip. Seems that car thieves are like vultures, and have been waiting for the traveling roadshow to come through town so that they can harvest at will. Unfortunately, two cars are gone and we need your help in trying to locate them. Both were stolen from the Courtyard by Marriott hotel and both are LS-swapped G-bodies.

The first car is Garret Alexander Reed’s 1984 Monte Carlo SS. Garrett is one of the nicest, most laid back dudes we know and he’s been busting his ass to get this car ready for Power Tour. Ever since I’ve known him, this car has consumed him and he only just got it done earlier this year. We’re talking full strip-down, repaint, everything…this is a very in-depth build that I was hoping to shoot as a feature kind of car. Just yesterday he was showcasing his removable steering wheel system that he joked would be an awesome theft deterrent. The Monte has an LSX376 crate motor with a Whipple blower, full Detroit Speed suspension, a Currie rear axle, Corbeau seats and a Holley 12.3 dashboard installed.

We are working to get more details on the 1983 Malibu wagon that was taken from the same lot as well, but this is the car. If you’re out on Power Tour, watch your stuff closely and if you see or hear of anything that could be related to either car’s vanishing, call it in.

UPDATE 1:

Looks like the thieves were busy last night. Add two more cars to the mix. If you have details on the Malibu, Caprice or C/K and want to share it, reach out to me at [email protected] and we’ll post it up.

I hope to hell that they’re found but I think at this point, they should expect the worst. They’ve probably already been chopped for parts. I don’t know how the hell 4 cars got stolen from the same damned hotels. Shouldn’t they have cameras or something? I hope they find the pricks…..

i live in this area and i will ask around to some of the bike riders in the area and see if they have heard of anything in the streets and let someone know what i find out

This is BAD, I lack the vocabulary to say anything PG rated about this. I’ve never gone to Hot August Nights in Reno after a few friends cars and several others were stolen 8 years ago, truely scum of the earth! Anyone who buys any of these cars or parts deserve the worst also, no market=no theft.

Unfortunately these cars are probably long gone by now… And if there is a small chance they get them back, they will have been stripped for parts. Sad but that’s just how it goes.

Damn shame people work and spend a lot of time and money for some pos to ruin it

All GM because they are easy to steal . Guard your steering column and use a kill switch.

I can’t help but think these were stolen by professional theives. Pickup with a cradle lift like the repo guys use and they’re gone.

Awful news. All the participants need to disable their cars somehow when they are going to sleep. But like Ian said they may be using a repo style tow truck.

Car theft punishment is very minor compared to other crimes,it doesn\’t act as a detterent to thieves as it\’s a slap on the wrist if you do get caught. They need to make car theft a class A felony and I bet these scum of the Earth\’s think twice then.

I wish Holley would integrate some theft deterrent into their setups. At least a way to lock out the ECU would be nice. Only thing I know to do is delete the tune and reinstall it every time I leave it parked at work or in town.

I hope these cars get recovered. This sh!t pisses me off. GPS trackers and services have gotten dirt cheap. Maybe it’s time to start thinking about using one when going on these trips since thieves seem to target them more and more. If just one of these cars had one, they could bust these thieving ass holes the same day.

I don’t understand if you have that much money tied up why not get a Lojack system.

A loaded 12 gauge & a night chilling in the back seat while in the hotel parking lot! Even if you have to go for the ride to find out where they\’re going w/ the cars @ least you have your boom stick for back up. OK, so probably not the best plan of action, but fun to think about. So sorry to the hard working owners for their current loss. Best of luck!
