A 1969 Mercury Montego MX 428CJ Convertible Running The Strip Isn’t Something You See Everyday!

It’s a strange combination to see at the starting line, but we love it. Seeing a Mercury on the drag strip isn’t a common occurrence, and anything besides a Comet, Cougar or Capri is even rarer. Seeing a Montego MX droptop isn’t common anywhere, and seeing one packing the big-daddy 428CJ in-between the shock towers is that much more awesome. But watching the big Merc hang the hoops before running the quarter to the tune of [email protected]…well, folks, that’s a trick that this former NHRA ex-Stock Eliminator record holder (1973-75, 1981-83) does very well. The car is attributed to Rod Guilford, but we don’t know if that’s him behind the wheel or not in this run. All we know is that any drag car that run that hard, then drop the top and cruise just as easily is alright in our book!
