The Mercury Capri started life as a sporty European import in the early 1970s, but by 1979 it had devolved into a rebadged Ford Mustang, albeit one with a unique look once you were at the back end of the car. The 1979-1982 models were really fancy Mustangs, but in 1983 the “bubble back” rear hatch made it’s appearance. This compound rear window setup was meant to be a Mercury styling statement, shared by the Mercury LN7, itself a copy of the oft-derided Ford EXP front-driver. While the look isn’t for everyone, at it’s core it’s a Mustang, and a Mustang can haul ass. They can also drift pretty well, as seen in this footage from a couple of years ago. The only statement we have from the footage, besides the track being referred to as “Drift Valley”, is the poster’s statement: “Not my car, not my driving.” That’s a shame, because it looks like the guy wheeling the Mercury around is having a freaking ball.
