Ebay Find: This 1972 Ford LTD Is Pure Seventies Perfection

Ebay Find: This 1972 Ford LTD Is Pure Seventies Perfection

It’s become Big Car Week here at BangShift, if purely by accident. First we get a snotty Oldsmobile whipping donuts, then I threw some love to the Mopar crowd with some C-bodies getting rowdy. I’m working on something for the Ford guys, I promise, but for now, let’s take a close look at a beauty that’s up for sale on eBay. This 1972 Ford LTD is about every possible idea I could have for a Seventies cruiser. Big coupe? Check. Big motor? 400ci, check. How about some luxuries…power windows, door locks and seats are present and accounted for. So far, so good. $_57-1

The 1972 full-size coupes of any of the brands had a kind of “mature muscle” look to them, and this LTD is no exception. This is the kind of car that didn’t need to show off or be loud to make people take notice. It’s not meant to be a balls-out racer, but instead a comfortable cruiser, something that made anyone inside the car feel important. While Lincoln, Imperial and Cadillac were the cars that exuded the top of the line, Ford, Chrysler and Chevrolet didn’t forget about their customer base either. I really appreciate that someone kept this car as it is instead of trying to morph it into the muscle car it just wasn’t. Wheels are one thing, but when someone goes for the whole paint and stance package on a car that’s this nice it looks like Kristie Alley in a prom dress. This looks dignified, outside and in.

Just look at those seats…looks like a comfortable old sofa that you just sink into and are automatically comfortable. Just enough paisley pattern to be throwback, not enough to creep you out. A leather-jacket shade of brown, which looks right with the rest of the car. I’ll speak for myself, but I want to cruise this car with the windows up and the A/C blasting on some long-stretch highways out West as the sun starts to go down. This car is awesome, being a 42-year-old survivor with less than 50,000 miles on the clock makes it that much better, and knowing it’s for sale is the icing on the cake. This is the Seventies that isn’t defined by cheap drugs, cheaper women and porn ‘stashes. This is the “cruise home, park in the garage and sit back in the easy chair with a whiskey on the rocks” take on it.
