The Unwelcome Three-Wheel Motion: Watch As The “Black Betty” Zephyr Gets Wild At American Outlaws Live!

The moment you realize you’ve gone too far with your car’s tune is the moment you proceed to scare yourself on a run. Stacey Kinney learned that lesson this weekend at American Outlaws Live in Ennis, Texas first-hand. His nitrous-huffing, small-block Ford powered 1979 Mercury Zephyr known as “Black Betty”, has recently had some work done in the hopes of getting down the track easier, with less time spent with the front wheels hanging in the air. During testing, things looked promising…the Mercury’s nose wasn’t going straight for the sky and the car was running straight and true. However, during the fourth round of the True Street competition, the Zephyr got all sorts of wild. We can’t tell if it was only on the left-rear tire or if the Mercury actually left the ground entirely, but from the driver’s seat, we highly doubt if it mattered to Kinney, who managed to keep control of the shoebox Fox long enough to get all four wheels back on the ground with minimal damage. Hit play below and hang on!
