When all else is equal, racing comes down to driver skill. The wheelman who can keep his cool the longest, run the line the hardest, and keep the car together will emerge the victor, no matter what series of racing you are talking about. While some watch races for the crashes or the drama, nothing will get everybody out of their seats like a good fight for first place, and this footage from BTCC in 1988 shows why. In the black and red Texaco-sponsored Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 is Steve Soper, the man who would end up placing runner-up in the championship points that year. In the Kaliber-sponsoredĀ Sierra Cosworth RS500 is Andy Rouse, another hard-hitting driver who would end up placing third in points that year. At Brands Hatch, these two fought each other back and forth for twenty laps, with Soper fighting for place and Rouse coming right back. This is tight racing from start to finish, door handle to door handle, nose-to-tail the entire way through!
