Your Moment Of Zen: Meet Ford’s Sweaty Bum Robot And Watch It Test Out New Seats

Did you make that omnipresent New Year’s Resolution to lose some weight? Are you a trackside photographer who works mere yards from a river in a location that naturally sees temperatures over 90 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity levels near 100%? Do you sweat just by reading the menu? If you are one of the many people who have found themselves with no choice but to hop into a car soaked in sweat, we’re sure you’ve wondered just what kinds of fresh hell your seat has to endure over time thanks to your saturated backside. Well, wonder no more…Ford has been on the case. Meet “Robutt”. It is a robot that in three days’ time, puts a brand new seat through the ultimate swass test: simulating ten years’ worth of use by a large sweaty man, Robutt has the temperature, has the weight, and has 450 milliliters of water to disperse throughout where the human shadow makes landfall. The only thing that the “Robutt” testing system isn’t able to calculate is the actual 10-year damage that’s done courtesy of bacteria, salts, and other situations that we don’t think Robutt is capable of making happen. But you can’t deny that using a bum robot to put wear and tear into a seat for study is still a pretty solid test of what will happen to the seats inside a sweaty man’s car.

A robot that mimics a large sweaty ass. That’s it, that’s enough Internet for today. I’m going back into the garage…
