Do Old Mopars Die? This 1973 Satellite Isn’t Dead, But It’s Pretty Close!

Do Old Mopars Die? This 1973 Satellite Isn’t Dead, But It’s Pretty Close!

What is easily the happiest part of my experience working at BangShift is highlighting people who actively go out of their way to bring a dead car back to life. No special one-offs or rare things, no jaw-dropping auction-ready dream machines, just good old cars that just weren’t worth rebuilding in someone’s eyes when things were going wrong. Granted, a lot of people are more about watching the action, but out of the millions of hours of YouTube footage that have to be available that show people wrenching on old throwaway iron, there statistically has to be someone out there who was inspired to try their own revival project or even their own random repair project. And that’s something I’ll always support: just get in there and spin the wrenches.

In my eyes, a 1973 Plymouth Satellite is a score…it’s a Road Runner without the name, the body is the same, the powertrains are typical Mopar fare, and with a tweak here and a tweak there, they can be good. Really good. But to a lot of people, this is when Chrysler went from good to bad in one swift motion. The power quickly fell off of a cliff, the bumpers were growing, and the vinyl roofs were growing like slime molds. There’s good and bad, but any car that is this old that is being brought back to life rules in our books!
