There’s just something about an old pickup that’s awesome. Every nick scratch in the paint tells a story of what the truck has seen over the years, from rock chips to the one time the bumper nudged a fence post a little too hard. Too often these trucks wound up used, abused, and tossed aside for the next truck, but some of them have made it through the decades and are still around, as ready as ever to work. Maybe that’s why this 1971 Dodge D100 is calling our name.
There’s a lot to like about this Sweptline. The paint is faded just enough…it doesn’t look ratty or overly beat but it is worn. It’s like the pair of jeans that don’t have holes in them but are so broken in that you could sleep in them comfortably. The spoked wheels are a nice addition, but if you are a purist, the stock steelies and caps are included with the sale, as is the toolbox in the bed of the truck.
There are no real surprises to be had with this Dodge. The 318 2-bbl under the hood is no shock, as is the basic black interior. Nothing is out of place, everything fits together nicely. You almost expect to see a dog curled up on the passenger side of the bench seat, don’t you?
The owner has admitted to having other projects and is looking to unload the D100 for $4800. What do you think, is it a steal or would you wait and see if something a little cheaper shows up for the budget-minded?

Oh man, I would if I could!
A Mopar-based “evil twin” of Roadkill’s Muscle Truck is on my to-do list.
I dig it. I’d whack about 6 inches outta the suspension and drive it everyday..
I just paid 1200 for mine…this is waaaay to expensive…2800 maybe….4800…hell no.
My dad always talks about driving one of these one summer when he worked for a local state park during summer break. It had a v8 and 4speed…said he tried like hell all summer to tear it up and it just took the abuse with nary a complaint. He surmised that those old Dodges were “ugly but tough as hell”.
First truck I ever drove was a 69 D-100, V8 4spd. I was 14 and learning how to redneck drift in the field, Goodtimes!!!
