The Ultimate Chimera: A Wagoneer-Framed, Buick Powered Plymouth Valiant Wagon With Pinto Taillights!

The Ultimate Chimera: A Wagoneer-Framed, Buick Powered Plymouth Valiant Wagon With Pinto Taillights!

It is very difficult to know where to start with what you are looking at right here, but this is as good a point as any: that lead photo is only the tip of the iceberg, folks. I was looking for an Oldsmobile Starfire when I came across…well, this. Don’t just say, “Oh, a Valiant trar. Cool. Moving on…” This is by far the strangest bit of kit I’ve seen on eBay in quite some time, and that is saying something for eBay. Remember, this is the site where you can pick up a near-death Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2, a Bricklin and a 1992 Dodge truck that’s been sitting outside in doorhandle-high weeds for years for $25,000 if your heart so desires. Don’t underestimate the weird out there.

I’m guilty of using the word “chimera” a lot, but in this case, it applies. Here’s what you are looking at, broken down: the chassis of a Jeep Wagoneer, the body of a 1964 Valiant station wagon with the nose of a 1964 Barracuda up front, seats and a steering column from an Oldsmobile Cutlass, a Buick 455 V8 powering everything, four Ford Pinto taillights, and believe me, I don’t say this lightly: the ultimate jaw-dropping interior treatment. Don’t believe me? Look for yourself:

It’s not often that I’m left speechless after viewing eBay photos, but this Valiant did it. You can’t knock the interior…who knows how many man-hours went into the woodwork?…and the rest of the build looks solid, though the seller refers to it as a rat rod. At least they are honest about the car being a ten-footer. It’s strange and awesome at the same time. Imagine parking this at a Mopar show. Just as the purists start to freak out about the Buick mill, open up the door, and enjoy the sounds of silence as every head tries to wrap itself around what they are seeing.

eBay Link: 1964 Plymouth Valiant wagon…ish.

This must be what happens when one of the world’s top rated cabinet makers decides to build a car.

The first reaction at looking at this should be to blow chunks – but the chimera is so well executed it looks like it came out the factory that way. Chrysler could have predated the Range Rover if they’d made this. But for me this would be undriveable with the present interor as I certainly would be blowing chunks over that hideous waste of a noble tree…

OK, OK, the interior is just utterly weird…but exterior wise its very well done, almost understated. I like it! I’d buy it, pull around the corner and tear the interior out before driving it home just in case I was pulled over and the cops thought the dash was my idea…
