It’s amazing what people can do with the floorpan of a Volkswagen Beetle and some resin, isn’t it? Think about all of the interesting creations that have been made using those items: Bradley GT, Sterling, and mini-replicas of just about any vehicle you can think of. We even found not one, but TWO kits that tried to turn the Type 1 into an early 1970s split-bumper Camaro…eeech.
But we didn’t know that this particular kit even existed until now. Made by FiberFab, a company that has been cranking out fiberglass bodies for cars for numerous owners since 1964, it’s the Aztec 7, which is supposedly based on the Alfa Romeo Carabo concept car. Honestly, we don’t see the resemblance…we see a bit of Lamborghini/Pantera/1970’s wedge supercar up front, Bricklin SV-1 in the middle, and the slightest hints of AMX/3 or maybe a Ferrari in the tail.
We know, it’s hard to see “Ferrari” when it uses Chevette taillights. The interior isn’t just sparse, it’s about as barren as can be, and that’s even before the havoc that sitting out in the middle of a Tennessee field did. The Volkswagen flat-four is locked up as tight as a drum, and the seller suspects that the car was never finished. A good scrubbing, a new interior, a new powertrain, and a set of those turbines on white-letter tires with a blindingly bright paint job…what do you think? LS swap? Subaru? A Honda engine that’ll rev past 10,000 RPM?

(Thanks to Nicholas Triplett for the tip!)
Swap in a Subaru WRX motor as its a VW chassis and there are many kits available to make this an easy job. Then fit some proper wheels and tyres and lowered strengthened suspension and go out 911 hunting…
That there looks (kinda) like a Vector Aeromotive W2
Looks like a Countach? that’d be a trick since the countach didn’t come out until 1974. Same with the Bricklin.
There were so many of these companies that made fiberglass crap – you could count on one hand, with 4 fingers left over the number of fiberglass/VW pan builders that were cool (Manx). The rest looked like turds. Sounds like this one, the builder finally woke up from his drug haze and said “why?” then went onto more profitable, 70s ventures.
Here’s one of those Camaro kit-cars, but with Corvair power. I met the owner. actually test drove this one and placed a bid for it but the other guy hit “buy-it-now”. I found it for sale again 3 years later but the new owner had painted over the cool 70’s graphics. I told him I would have given his full ask if he hadn’t ruined it with the new paint.
