Both Brian and Chad are head-over-heels for Unimogs, the bulletproof, brutally stout workhorses that Mercedes-Benz built. I can’t knock the trucks at all, they are one of the most legendary workhorse vehicles on the planet for a damn good reason, but unlike those two, I’m not overly smitten with them. If I need an enclosed tractor that can do just about anything I could ask for, I’d look at one, but otherwise I’d rather have just about anything else…if for no other reason, I’d like a highway-useable cruise speed in case my traveling goes further than a couple of hours’ worth of driving time. So, here’s a good question: which one of the two will go nuts for this rig first?
What you are looking at is a 1987 Unimog U1300L that is a former fire engine pump truck. Out back is a 1.4L Renault engine-equipped pump system that, truthfully, could hit the scrapyard for what we care. The high-point of this rig is that it’s a “Doka”, or translated, a crew cab. Four people can fit inside of the cab of this ‘Mog with relative ease, though the rear passengers will have to get used to the world side-scrolling on by. But that’s a minor detail…we’d have this thing converted into an RV of sorts as fast as we could move…whether it’s Chad and Daphne and their puppies roaming around California, the entire Lohnes family hunting for dragstrips lost to time or the wife and I disappearing for a week after throwing a dart at a map, the setup would be the same: sleeping area added onto one very badass off-roading machine. Now, just to see who takes the bait first…
I once saw exactly that in an old British 4×4 magazine – a tastefully converted Unimog-based RV. It had all the expedition gear on its and was so well conceived it looked factory built.
Over to you Mercedes – we want a Unimog RV and we want it NOW!
They are the coolest factory built 4×4 on the planet . I personally like the older rounder ones better but this one is still cool because what really matters is the drivetrain /suspension.

Nice of the seller to list the “known items”. My opinion: If you want $30K for your vehicle, you do the so-called easy fixes.
