Video: Resurrecting Evel Knievel’s Big Red Truck. This Mack Is Truly Something Special

Video: Resurrecting Evel Knievel’s Big Red Truck. This Mack Is Truly Something Special

Everyone knows Evel Knievel for his crazy jumps and stunts that he did on his famed motorcycles, but he was also known for a lot of other extravagancies, like this killer Mack truck that hauled him, his bikes, and his accolades all around. The inside of this truck is epic and the entire build was done custom, just for him, by Mack Trucks. It was rescued, after nearly rotting away, and was completely restored so it could go on tour and then live in the Evel Knievel museum. If you haven’t seen it before, watch the video and use the link below to check out photos that Joe Grippo shot of it.

Video Description:

This is the restoration of Evel Knievel’s legendary truck. “Big Red,” as it was affectionately known, was a circus wagon hauling ramps, motorcycles, and most importantly – the King of Daredevils. Today it lives inside the Evel Knievel Museum in Topeka, Kansas.

Here you see first-hand footage of bringing the truck back from destruction. The video is interspersed with historic film taken from the original press conference where Evel Knievel was presented with the sponsorship by Mack Truck.

Directed and produced by Lathan Mckay, Mike Patterson, Ryan Cavanaugh, and the Evel Knievel Museum team. It took 93 people to realize this dream, and some of them are featured in this footage including Marilyn Stemp, Robby Hull, Bruce Zimmerman, Chuck Stover, Travis Charbonneau, Tex McDormand, George Sedlak, Robb Mariani, Scott Wiley, Mike Draper, Louis “Rocket” Re, and more…

I stumbled upon an episode of Shipping Wars on YouTube that featured Evil’s truck & I learned that Rob Lowe of “Tiger King” fame apparently used to be the manager for Evel Knievel’s estate… atleast he was at the time the truck was being restored…
Fun trivia fact for the day
