We’ve moaned and complained about it. We’ve picked it apart and shown it’s fatal flaws, but Cash for Clunkers is here and the manufacturers are getting ready for it. We like the 1984 or newer rule on trade-ins, but we have a sinking feeling that it’s only a temporary mark.

The reason for our queasiness? Dealers and others within the government are complaining that the scope of the program is too narrow and seem to be getting ready to build their case that, in order for the program to succeed, all the current restrictions must be analyzed and some must be removed.

Remember, the program has not even officially started yet, and the campaign to expand it is on and in full force.
