Celebrity Car Death Match: The Dirt Wheelstanding F-Bomb From The Fast And The Furious VS The Street Wheelstanding Charger From The Fast Ad The Furious

Celebrity Car Death Match: The Dirt Wheelstanding F-Bomb From The Fast And The Furious VS The Street Wheelstanding Charger From The Fast Ad The Furious

Yesterday’s celebrity car death match was insane. We had more comments, more anger, and more commenter on commenter violence than we’ve seen in some time on the blog. The passion shown toward the battle between the Milner 1932 Ford coupe and the famed “California Kid” 1934 Ford was intense. So how did it turn out and how are we going to lighten the mood today? Read on to find out!

[box_dark]Yesterday’s Battle Result –

John Milner’s 1932 American Graffiti Ford coupe DEFEATS The California Kid

‘Da Kid went down in literal flames against Milner’s hot rod…we were expecting a tight battle but this was a landslide![/box_dark]

Since yesterday was a heated emotional battle we’re going to crank up the fun meter a little with today’s match up. While their value as movies can be openly questioned, the Fast and Furious franchise of films has certainly had an impact on the modern car culture. I remember how insanely packed the drag strip was after that first movie came out and the wave lasted a couple of seasons. There have now been approximately 32 sequels to that first film and each have had their share of memorable cars, but two in particular stand out to me. The first is the Challenger that is driven and wrecked at the end of the first movie and the other is the fake version of Freiburger’s F-Bomb that pulls the famed dirt wheelie in the Fast and Furious four. Let’s look at the competitors.

The 1969 Charger that’s driven by Dominic Toretto in the first movie is one of the few muscle cars that actually makes an appearance. Sadly, that appearance ends in violence during a climactic street race against a Supra which looks a lot like a clown car. The part of the chase that brought hardcore car guys to their knees with laughter was the massive wheelstand that the Mopar pulls when Toretto lays down the hammer. The car leaps skyward while smoking the tires. If that isn’t enough, a short time later the car crashes in spectacular fashion, leaving another classic Mopar lying in ruins on a movie set. Hollywood loves killing those sonsabitches for some reason. Anyway, the car then reappeared in the fourth movie only to be wrecked again…and why not. That’s some creative story telling. Anyway, it had a blower on it which has some merit, although it was all just a fake looking deal to appear legit on film, so maybe it doesn’t. Hey, at least it got wrecked once, brought back from the dead and then wrecked again. That’s a good thing, right?

In this corner is the movie version of an actual, living car. David Freiburger’s F-Bomb Camaro made a huge splash when it saw the light of day about eight years ago. The twin turbo small block that makes 1500hp was a very wild combo back then and anything with 1500hp is still damned insane, even now. While the Charger pulled its cartoon wheelie on the street, the movie F-Bomb one ups even that by pulling a huge wheelie on dirt and then helping to thwart the bad guys. Is there anything this car can’t do? Well yeah, the movie version can’t hold a candle to the real version, but the real version can’t pull dirt wheelies. One of those chicken and egg arguments if you ask us.

Do we have to vote for either one?

If so, then the Charger wins. I can’t even muster the enthusiasm for an argument, though.

  2. Ron Ward

I am not entirely certain, but wasn’t that the last time the F-Bomb was actually driven?

I reserve my right to abstain from the voting process.

    Gotta go with the Charger.
The tire smoking wheelstand was bitch’n as hell for even the folks who knew better. Even for the uninitiated it was cool and the blown hemi powered all black beast (in a sea of vertigo triggering wraps) made a huge impact on even the most die hard ricer fan. Folks talked about it and debated the reality of it all for years. The reaction to it’s re-birth in the subsequent movie was great. In my opinion this blown muscle monster is a top 10 candidate for most influencial car in movies today.

    The F-Bomb was just that… a F*&^%ing Bomb !!
No justice done for the real car and even the young folks who can’t tell the difference between Nawz and Nose Gobblins…shook their heads when they saw the downshifting 8 grand bad guy squishing dirt wheelie. Nobody will care if it re-surfaces at any time in a future movie. In fact I’m sure it has all but disappeared from view simply because Frieberger is too embarrased to bring it out. There no lasting impact made, no influence on the car culture of any kind other than a stunt gone stupid… Big fail here !!

F-BOMB…..we all know that the charger would still be on cinder blocks …..since1985!

  5. Remy-Z

Charger. When even Toretto is admitting that he’s scared of it in the first film, you know it was scripted to be good. It even held up in the fourth, killed the Imperial that tried to ram it, and was only killed in the fifth one when the DSS truck horseshoe’d it.

  6. Dan Hendershot

F-BOMB!!! Freiburger’s only awesome idea in years, let the man have this one, I mean after all, he IS the editor of Hot Rod, so he knows his shit, and the Charger probably had a Chevy engine in it anyway.

  7. jerry z

Both are just stupid in terms of reality. I call it a draw because they’re both stupid. Did I say they’re both stupid? Smoking the tires while wheelstanding, thinks its slingshot dragster!

  8. chadb

vote is for the charger. the f-bomb was barely a cameo. btw, the real charger had a 440 with a 4bbl carb hidden under the gutted blower, mad max style. but no reason to fret, the winner of this match won’t get too far in the finals anyway. after all, besides the more worthy cars that have already been through here, we still haven’t seen mad max’s interceptor, or the dirty mary, crazy larry charger or chevy(both righteous), the willys from hot rod(1979), or the challenger from vanishing point. this is just a fun side track.

  9. Glenn Q

draw, their both cgi boosted cars, unlike the others and anything to do with Nick Cage. Neither win, nor lose.

  10. Russ

Both cars shown in the movie were prop cars, the f-bomb that did the dirt wheelie was a replica of the real car, owned by Mr Freiburger. The same goes for the charger. So I vote for “BIG RED” as the most awesome car to appear in any of the Fast & Furious movies!

  11. crazy canuck

the fast and furious franchise doesnt do any muscle cars justice bunch a ricer aholes , but if I gotta pick one its the charger. freakin fart pipe morons.

  12. cyclone03

This fight is only about “movie cars” in the movie niehter is real.

    The Charger is my vote.

(In real life I’d take DaBomb.)
