Champion Speed Shop Dragster Hauls the Mail at Dragfest

The Rod and Kulture Dragfest, held last weekend at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California, combined a hot rod event with some hot match races on the dragstrip. It sounds like a good time was had by all, especially the crew for the sinister looking, small-block Chevy powered, Champion Speed Shop Special Nostalgia Top Fuel dragster.

During the Chicago-style eliminator the team managed to tune the car to perfection and Adam Sorokin managed to drive it to a 5.96 second, 235-mph lap. That’s the biggest set of numbers that the boys have been able to throw up on a score board since revamping the motor and bringing the car back at the March Meet earlier this year.

This car is ridiculously bad ass, especially because it doesn’t have one of those big ugly motors with the spark plugs in the middle of the heads like everyone else in the class does. (We’re ducking for cover)

The best news of the whole thing is that this car is going to be at the NHRA Heritage Series event at Bowling Green, Kentucky on June 19-21st, where we’re going to be as well. Look for some in-depth coverage after that event.
