Check out these great vintage photos from New England Dragway on the H.A.M.B.

As you probably know, Lohnes is announcing at the New England Nationals at New England Dragway on RRRRRRRoute 27, EPPING, New Hampshire this weekend. I started digging around trying to find some cool old photos of the strip to show its transformation over the years, and stumbled on a treasure trove of great photos posted a few years back on the H.A.M.B.

We’re only going to post a few pictures here, because the credit for all of these goes to the guys there and you should really take the time to check them out. There are dozens of amazing pictures and great stories from the 1960s and early 1970s.

A guy who goes by the name of Church Key (Steve Buckley…we’re looking at YOU) posted an awesome selection of pictures, starting back at opening day in 1966:

Along with all the cool drag cars in this lineup, look way over to the left at that Saab 96. By 1966, Saab had only been exporting cars for six years. Saabs were always popular in New England, but in ’66, they probably hadn’t cracked five digits in all of the United States.

From Church Key’s description: “This is the first effort for “The Hard Guys” team 1967.  Jim Mahan , Mike Camberlain and Paul Delaney, bought the old Dick Roberts AA/FD and ran it as a BB/D.”

“Jack Doyle not only managed New England Dragway, he found time to run this top gas car. The car was mostly driven by Don Roberts. When Don was called away by Uncle Sam, Marty Schwartz and Mark Connelly did some seat time.”

These are just from the first page of 12 pages of comments, with dozens and dozens of photos posted. Take an hour and flip through some of them here at the H.A.M.B. You’ll be glad you did. We’ll see you at Epping this weekend.
