A while back we told you that there was going to be a Classic American Muscle autocross invitational held at the SCCA national SOLO Championships this year. Well, the event took place and everyone from the SCCA to the guys racing their cars and trucks in the event thought it was awesome and have vowed to not only do it again but even expand the program with some new stuff for next year.

Dave Dusterberg, the SCCA official who kind of preached the gospel and worked as the unstoppable force behind the Classic American Muscle class dropped me a note to catch me up on what happened at the nationals and along with the note was a link to the photos and results of the invitational. Perhaps the thing I was happiest to see in the photos was the presence of some of the more well known pro touring cars in the country. Why? To me it means that people are paying attention and that there eyes on this class well beyond the “normal” SCCA racer. If the guys that ran this thing who can also be found at Goodguys, USCA, and American Street Car Association events come to their next one of those ranting about the time they had with the CAM class racers, it will translate into more cars and more racing for the enthusiasts out there.

Our own Dave Nutting has been hammering the cones in his Monte Carlo in Classic American Muscle class action here in Massachusetts and using the time as a testing and training ground as he tunes the chassis and hones his own driving skills. While he is not at the head of the pack yet, he loves the idea of racing with similar cars and at least having a valid benchmark to stack yourself up against in competition. As you will see in the photos below, there was a WIDE range of cars entered into the category at the SCCA meet, so who knows what you’ll see at your local autocross.
