COOL OR NOT: A PRO TOURING SEVENTIES ERA CHEVY C10

COOL OR NOT: A PRO TOURING SEVENTIES ERA CHEVY C10

The 1973-1987 Chevy/GMC truck line will forever go down in history as one of the most versatile ever designed. Never again will a car company keep the same basic architecture under a vehicle family for that long, especially now that Ford is killing all of their old school junk off. Charles Wickam took these photos at the Houston Autorama. We have seen these trucks done about six thousand different ways over the years from mud racers to monster trucks to drag strip bashers but this is the firs time we have seen one done as a serious Pro Touring machine.

We don’t have a ton of details on this short bed baddie, but we can see what looks to be the intake manifold of a Ram Jet 502 engine peeking up in the engine bay, from the rear it looks like there are some big ass brakes on the truck and what we can glean from the interior, it looks to be as neat and tidy as the paint work on the outside. The wheels may be a sticking point for some guys, but for the record we think they look dead sexy.

Cool or Not? You Tell Us! Is this 1970s Chevy short box pro touring truck cool?

This is by far my all time favorite body style of truck. These trucks look good as stockers, jacked up on 44’s, slammed, in strip trim and there is nothing wrong with this truck. When ever I sit and think of my perfect what if truck this is the body style that I always comes to mind first.

Wow, that is a really sharp truck, I like it alot…wheels work for me becasue the wheel wells are so big, it fills them in nicely

Awesomely badass truck. Those trucks are still popular around here (my buddy has had several and it nutzo over them). I always like them along with the late 70’s Fords…they sure don’t make ’em like they used to.

I love these trucks, and I don’t like this at all. It’s to nice for what it is, if that makes any sense. I’m sure it’s fast as hell and well built, but, it’s still a big, square, Chevy pick-em-up trying to fit in a Camaro’s shoes, which would have looked more bad ass anyway. That, and while my $500 OTD ’83 K10 with it’s load bearing floor mats and very mild 350 may not have been as fast around the autocross coarse, it could have beaten up that little C10 and rolled away without issue.

…….. the cool factor is in the build itself, unlike some of the s***boxes I’ve seen on the show circuit lately….
    wheels & paint are a personal preference……

The “same basic architecture under a vehicle” started in 1960 and the frame and suspension barely changed except for a slight change for the steering box in ’67, and geting half an inch taller in ’73 along with a different style front crossmember and push in bushings on the A-arms. I love the 60-87 stuff as so much interchanges.

    Total cool

I really like the shaved drip rails and the deleted vent window. I think the 70’s style tailgate should have been kept instead of using the 80’s style one. They look so much cooler with c-h-e-v-r-o-l-e-t spread out across the whole tailgate. I love these trucks

I agree w/ Matt………if you delete the rear bumper for a rollpan, the delete the front bumper too and add a rollpan. otherwise LOVE IT
