Cool Publicity Stunt Video: Prestone Melts a GM 3.6L V6!

Prestone took full advantage of the recent hot weather sweeping across the US by video taping a publicity stunt to “show” the importance of a fully functioning cooling system. They took a brand new GM 3.6L V6 block, turned some flame throwers on it and made liquid metal. It’s pretty freaking cool.

They removed all the pistons and rods, but at the end it appears that the crank was present and accounted for during the heat treatment. The cylinder liners, which we’re guessing are cast iron or some other metal last the longest and are still pretty much intact after the block melts like hot butter from around them.

There’s the typically on message spokesperson who makes a strong attempt to tie this stunt in with the necessity of automobile owners to pay attention to their cooling systems while performing maintenance, but it is truly a stretch.

Flame on!
