We found a great piece of video to cap off today. The nearly 15-minute film is a look at the 1965 LA Times Grand Prix, held at the long dead Riverside Raceway in California. Riverside was a road course known nation wide for hosting great events ranging from Can-Am to Mickey Thompson’s wild off road races. You will see some of the greatest names in American racing hammering on each other in this video.
Can-Am cars are crazy by today’s standards and were other-worldly during their heyday in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Huge power was being made by big block engines, weight minimums were virtually non-existant, and the balls of the guys behind the wheel didn’t allow for lifting. It was flat out, and fast as hell.
The only thing we don’t like about this video is the fact that we were born too late to experience it in person!
I love that you can see the racing line in the track from all the worn off rubber.
