Craigslist Find: A Cool 1949 Ford Double Front-Ender

Craigslist Find: A Cool 1949 Ford Double Front-Ender

Years ago when the world was a simpler place, businesses did all sorts of wacky stuff to get attention for themselves. One of the neater automotive means to that end was to build and drive a “double front end” car. The concept is pretty simple, you cut two cars apart and weld the front ends together, facing opposite directions. You can probably be fined for even thinking of something like this in today’s world, but back then, it was every man for himself. We got tipped off to a neat 1949 Ford example for sale in Santa Margarita, California.

The sale price for the car, which the seller admits to having a dead flathead motor, is $15,000. We don’t know what “double front enders” are supposed to sell for, but that seems insanely high for us.

On the mechanical side, obviously the steering axle of the rearward facing “front” has been replaced with a drive axle of some origin. Other than that, we can’t think that too much other work has to be done to finish off a project like this.

Obviously, we’re a tad twisted here a BangShift.com so it would come as no surprise to you that we’d love to be sitting on the rear facing half looking over our shoulders in a panicked manner pretending to drive the car up the street in reverse just to get a rise out of the people behind us.

So what do you think, is the price right on or totally out of the ballpark?

Thanks to Dave Wallace for the tip!
