Craigslist Find: A Nicely Done 1989 Cammer-motored ‘Stang

We’re starting to come around to the whole, “stick a DOHC Cobra motor in a Fox-bodied Mustang” thing. Even if just for the crowd reactions at car shows and the strip, it’s pretty cool. If we were headed down that road we’d definitely head for the later 5.4L version, but this cool Mustang we found in Washington state sports a 305hp 4.6L motor from the early OHC Mustang days. Even cooler is the fact that the car also packs a 2004 Cobra IRS!

We can already hear the cat calls coming from guys who’d rather stick a snotty 302 in the car and spend far less time and aggravation in making this intensive swap. That’s all well and good, and we certainly cannot argue the logic, but this car would be a true hoot to drive and exhibit great balance and handling that both the cammer engine and IRS would provide. Well, that and the axle-breaking wheelhop.

We think the wheels are no good, but that’s just our personal taste. If we were going to put a set of factory wheels on the car, they would either be Bullit model take-offs or Ford GT knock-offs.

So here’s the question, is this a winner or a swap or too much time and effort for too little return?
