I’m into a lot of different gearhead things, but most folks know me as the drag racing, land speed racing, and autocross guy. Well, I also belong to a very small group of guys that send listings for weird vans and motorhomes around to each other each week. I know, it’s weird, but sometimes they are just so damn cool that I can’t help but want them. Such is the case with this crazy cool, un-restored, gem out of Japan. Yep, Japan.
According to the ad it’s a Mazda, but according to the emblem on the hood it’s a Mitsubishi. If the rest of the ad is to be believed, this is a 1970 Bus. It’s powered by a 2.5 liter diesel that probably also came in a forklift, and it’s in unbelievable clean shape despite it’s age. This shouldn’t surprise us given the cleanliness of all the public transportation in Japan, but at 43 years old, this old girl looks great!
Now before you get all, “What the hell is Chad smoking on us?”, let me tell you what I would do with it. First I would lay the thing flat on the rockers with some parts from Ridetech, probably do an engine and trans swap with stuff from Lingenfelter and American Powertrain, and replace the passenger side single seats with a bar that is fully stocked for the enjoyment of passengers. And speaking of passengers, I’d invite all you morons to ride around in it with me. Helmets would be provided, but optional.
Who’s in?!?!
Take a look at the pictures below, and click the original ad at the bottom of the page.
Just drive it across the Mitsubishi bridge that Iacoocoo built when he ruined Chrysler for a decade.
Sometimes when i’m driving i’ll see a whole group of cute Japanese gals and just don’t have the space in my car…
