Money No Object: This 1973 SS 454 Chevelle Is Restored Greatness. Big Block, Bench Seat, Column Shift!

Money No Object: This 1973 SS 454 Chevelle Is Restored Greatness. Big Block, Bench Seat, Column Shift!

I used to HATE the look of these weird body style Chevelles, El Caminos, and Lagunas. I couldn’t get behind Johnny Hunkins unnatural love for them and wasn’t afraid to tell him that. But over the past few years something has changed my mind. I don’t know what it is, but they are kinda growing on me. So when BANGshifter Rocco Bastone sent this one in as a potential Money No Object for sale item I couldn’t help but share. While it isn’t my favorite GM color, this restored 1973 Chevelle SS 454 is pretty darn cool.

As the last Chevelle SS model year, it is pretty impressive that they still offered it with a big block even if it was on the way to very low power. With only 245 horsepower on tap and 375 lb ft of torque, this car wasn’t going to win any real drag races but it was what was available and is now something rare and special.

1973 Chevelle SS 454, very last year of the SS model, AT, AC, PS, PB, Posi-traction, original interior and exterior colors. Car was built in Texas, shipped and sold in Los Angeles then moved to Idaho where I purchased it. All original GM sheet metal, frame-off rotisserie restoration, numbers matching 454 engine, original rear end, period correct transmission. Car starts, runs, drives, and stops like new, approximatly 4,000 miles since restoration.

Rare piece but no way it was a frame off restoration. If you’re going to that much trouble the engine bay wouldn’t look like that. Rust on fasteners, overall filth and that radiator overflow bottle is nasty. You’d also have pictures showing the “frame off” process.

I hope the guy didn’t go to all of the trouble of restoring this car without warming up that big block a little.

Seems like it’d take some type of emotional attachment (1st girlfriend’s dad had one?) for anyone to want this bad enough to pay $31K, but it is nice. Thanks for the post.

only 4 k miles since a frame off ??? BS
looking at the under hood pic … more 40 k miles
why would there be under dash gauges ?
no speakers in the rear deck…

typical Florida dealer perfume on a pig

I had a chance to buy a triple-blue 1973 Chevelle SS with 454 in 1990 for $500. It was loaded and had the swivel buckets and center console. It was bought new by a friend of a friend’s family. It was cheap because he smacked a curb and damaged the front suspension. I’m still kicking myself…..
BTW, I’ve always LOVED this body style.

It’s a decent deal. You could not restore that car that nice for 31 grand. Parts are hard to get. Has to be NOS and the overflow tank is one year only so that explains that.
