Party On: 1980 Dodge B250 Six-Wheel Conversion – Bring A Friend! Bring Several!

It is actually pretty difficult to explain how this 1980 Dodge B250 is a product of it’s time, considering that the entire build pre-dates your humble author by years. Vans are a strange thing…a utility vehicle that is converted to move many people makes sense. To make it a comfortable people mover, with plenty of luxury amenities inside makes sense. But to add a tag axle to a van, and then pimp it out inside as if you’re looking at rolling First Class all the way to an Aerosmith concert, that’s where you lose me.

I will admit that from what I see, there’s a lot to like about this Dodge compared to other van builds. This doesn’t immediately scream “shaggin’ wagon” or “Call the cops”. It looks pure early Eighties, but inside you just have some very comfy-looking chairs, a bench in the back and that’s that. Nothing too radical, but plenty well-done. There’s no murals, no furry walls, no sense that you might be able to solve a whole slew of cold cases just by DNA testing the carpet. Frankly, it’s almost conservative.

Almost. You’ll still have everybody and their mother craning their necks to peer through the large port windows and there will certainly be some nervous mothers shuttling their kids away from the van, but should that stop you from enjoying all of this period correct, bright-stripe, Appliance mag-wearing glory?

The twin to this was on a local Dodge dealer’s used lot back in the 80’s. I drooled over it as a super cool tow rig in my bracket racer dreams.
Actually, that would still be an uber cool retro tow rig. A smogger 440 up front, and a W2 Duster on an open trailer out back.
