I grew up around plenty of people that would fall under categories like “shady”, “dangerous”, “unstable”, “criminal”, and just about every other adjective you could use to describe someone in a dark, negative light with. Without going into details that don’t need to be public knowledge, just understand that those people who did their best to try to raise me often ran with people who would be just as happy to give you a tickle with a switchblade or a good thump in the middle of your forehead with an iron spike as to look at you. It was easy to tell as I was growing up who I didn’t need to be a wise-ass to. Generally, the worse off they looked, the better off I was to be polite, quiet, and quick to disappear out of sight. As a kid, I might have had some leeway, but adults usually did the same thing, because they were the most likely to draw first blood.
Great segue into a worn-out 1977 Chevy Nova Rally, isn’t it? Hang with me, because it’s a perfect transition. Look at this X-body. This is rough, like “$1200 as long as you have good paperwork” rough. Wide auto-drags on mismatched tires, paint that’s chalkier than an antacid, an interior that’s present but decaying, and the trunk with the missing lock cylinder. The only thing that would make this scene more complete is a spotless Harley parked next to it and a guy known only by a nickname to everybody but the police standing next to it.
Just like the town’s Mean Mr. MFker, this Nova isn’t anything to get scrappy with either. That outside looks grizzled and worn-down, but the 454 under that hood looks ready to dance. In a light and lithe X-body, a car that’s composed of Camaro parts and is lighter than a Chevelle, that’s a lot of fight ready to be unleashed. Go ahead…pick out another critique. We’re pretty sure that Hoss won’t mind you crying foul over the color-shifted interior plastics any. Rain, shine, whatever…it ain’t pretty but it will get the job done without any real fuss. Not bad for an old banger of a Nova, is it?
AWWW, SH&T, McT, FIRST THING IN THE MORNING??? Now I can’t get that big-block outta my head!
I aim to please!
If that is what the air filter looks like I hope that the oil filter is a bit fresher.
I owned 1 of 283 purpose built 1975 Nova SS models. I ordered the car with my options. I changed timing gears and bought BW Super T10 2nd design with 2.88 first gear and 3.43 rear end with posi and I can say without a doubt, with slicks so I could hook up this little car would leave the line like a rocket. Best weight ratio of all Nova\’s.
