I’ve driven expensive cars, I’ve driven new cars, I’ve driven some pretty speedy cars. But the best cars I’ve driven tended to be low-buck, broke-ass rides that earned their keep by being amusing. There…if you want a small insight into why I like unloved cars, use that as a legitimate reason instead of blaming it on my eye doctor’s incompetence. Growing up, we had the War Cars, the Comet, and the Trail Trucks, a conglomerate of about seven vehicles that I drove like a maniac in. Whether I was jumping the original War Car (1976 Charger? 1975 Coronet?) or I was practicing Rockfords in the Comet, it was the same: no car was worth more than $1,500 and all of them were the most fun I’ve had learning how to really drive. High school Driver’s Ed can bite it when compared to hands-on experience.
Now, this ain’t the first 1980s fullsize Ford sedan we’ve seen get the off-road treatment, but this is easily the most affordable and likely the most fun you’ll have. This is the car you pile four friends in, the car you stuff tons of camping equipment into the trunk of and head out to go camping for a weekend. From the ad:
